How To Get Lucky: The Power of Just Showing Up

Want to know how to get lucky? It has nothing to do with chance and everything to do with one simple habit….

How To Get Lucky by consistently showing up, taking action every day, and creating opportunities through persistence and discipline.
Discover how consistently showing up every day creates opportunities, builds momentum, and increases your chances of success.

Want to know how to get lucky? It has nothing to do with chance and everything to do with one simple habit.

Most people think luck is something that happens to you. I’ve come to believe it’s something you create by consistently showing up, long before anyone notices your progress.

Chasing our goals often feels hard.

We procrastinate; we know it’s something we want to do, but we just can’t get ourselves to do the work. We often struggle to just get started.

We often feel stressed, frustrated, too tired, and a lack of clarity, and anything else seems to feel better than putting in the work to build the life we desire or to do what we know will make our lives better.

First of all, is it something you really want?

Make sure you aren’t feeling pressure from your friends, social group, or society to look a certain way, want certain things, or pursue certain goals.

If you’re healthy, satisfied, make enough money to not be paycheck to paycheck, and what you want to do is to just relax and not stress, then you do you.

You probably already have what you want or do what you want. Maybe you’re trying to hustle to be able to retire so that you can hang out with your friends or just play video games every evening.

Maybe that’s what you’re already doing. If that’s the case, then your problem is that you’re not being present to the moment. Be grateful, be happy!

But, if there is a goal, any goal, small or big, and/or you know you want more out of life, then learn this: Show The F UP!

Show up!

If you already had it, it would be easy.

There would be no need to grow or improve.

You wouldn’t find joy in imagining yourself already having the end result.

We view our goals as hard because we imagine the work it will take to accomplish them.

The thing is, everything is work, so don’t let your weak instincts for survival keep you from growing your wings and achieving your dreams. The journey is part of the end result. Stop living in your made up dream land and make the best of your journey now. Learn to seize the moment.

The struggle, the procrastination, the lack of motivation, life getting in the way is part of the process. This is also exactly what making hard things easy is about — the hard parts are not obstacles to the journey, they are the journey.

Steven Pressfield calls this Resistance in The War of Art — the invisible force that rises every time we try to do something meaningful. Naming it makes it easier to push through.

They are the obstacles on the way to test you and to provide the strength and tools to learn and to keep going.

The mental and physical struggle can often be your brain and body working toward a solution because we are naturally curious and goal-oriented creatures.

Don’t let feelings or obstacles stop you from achieving your goals.

The answer to the best life is One Simple Trick. No, not Just Do It. More Like JUST SHOW UP!

Show up and try, even if that means doing one single thing for five minutes.

Get to the treadmill.

Write one sentence.

Reach out to some clients.

Cross one thing off the to-do list.

Once something is done, you can build on it. Once you get started, momentum can grow. When you show up, you can get lucky.

It doesn’t matter what it is. All aspects of our life benefit from this kind of discipline. As long as you do something every day, that is the important thing.

If you’re tired, Show Up

If you don’t have to, you still Show Up

If it’s been kicking your ass lately, Show Up!

Consistency is a superpower masked as willpower built from discipline. Day to day willpower is incredibly rare. You cannot be great without the self discipline to do that. One thing a day adds up. Each day adds up.

But the numbers are only interesting if they accumulate in large quantities.

How To Make ‘Showing Up’ a Habit

No matter what I’m trying to accomplish, this is the method that has helped me consistently show up and keep moving forward.

  1. Set up a 2 to 4 hour timer every day to work on your goal.
  2. Start working.

Do even one thing. If you can’t keep doing more for whatever reason, still keep the timer running.

You will adapt and your brain will know that the timer means working on your goal.

You will find yourself doing more than you thought you could as the days go on. Clarity will show up and you will start creating systems based on those two to four hours as you show up consistently every day.

Simple as that. You will get lucky by showing up. So, SHOW UP!

Luck isn’t something you wait for. It’s something you create every time you show up.

The people who seem the luckiest are often the ones who simply kept showing up long after everyone else quit.
